China Pushes for Peace Talks Amid Global Tensions, Says Foreign Minister Wang Yi
In a recent meeting in Slovenia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that China stands firmly behind peace talks to tackle global hotspots. He made it clear: wars don’t fix problems, and sanctions just make things messier.
Wang shared these thoughts during a press conference in Ljubljana on Saturday, right after chatting with Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon. As reported by China Daily, he emphasized that China never starts or joins wars. Instead, the country focuses on sparking dialogue and pushing for political solutions to hotspot issues like ongoing conflicts.
Wang also called for stronger multilateralism—basically, countries teaming up through global bodies. He urged everyone to protect the core ideas of the United Nations Charter, especially now when the world feels like a tangled web of chaos and endless fights.
Turning to China-Europe ties, Wang said both sides should act as partners, not rivals. "We need to cooperate, not clash," he added. Choosing the right path during these massive global shifts shows the responsibility we all owe to history and people everywhere, according to Global Times.
His comments come at a tense time, just after US President Donald Trump suggested slapping huge tariffs on China. Trump floated the idea on Truth Social, proposing NATO hit China with 50% to 100% tariffs. He claimed this would pressure China to loosen its "strong grip" on Russia and help end the "ridiculous" Russia-Ukraine war once the conflict wraps up.
This isn’t Trump’s first jab at China. Earlier, he accused Chinese President Xi Jinping of plotting against the US, right after China’s massive military parade on September 3. That event drew big names like North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. But hours later, Trump flipped, saying his relationship with Chinese leaders is actually "very good."
As international relations heat up with talks of tariffs, sanctions, and peace negotiations, Wang’s push for dialogue highlights China’s role in promoting global stability.
