‘Namo Yuva Run’ to mobilise over 10 lakh youth across 75 cities today

India’s young people are gearing up for a massive nationwide event this Sunday. The ‘Namo Yuva Run’ promises to draw over 10 lakh participants running together in more than 75 locations, all focused on fitness and building a drug-free India.

The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) kicked off plans for this huge initiative back on September 7. It ties into celebrations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday on September 17, highlighting his push for youth empowerment and national health.

At a press conference in New Delhi, BJYM President and MP Tejasvi Surya shared exciting details. The run carries the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat,” or Drug-Free India. “Under PM Modi’s leadership and Home Minister Amit Shah’s guidance, we’ve fought hard against drugs over the past decade,” Surya said. “This isn’t just a fitness event—it’s about empowering our youth to beat addiction, which hurts people and even threatens our country’s security.”

Surya pointed out the scale: Each spot will host 10,000 to 15,000 runners, making it the biggest participative run in India. He connected the drug issue to bigger threats like narco-terrorism, border smuggling, and funding for Naxal groups.

To show progress, Surya highlighted key stats from the anti-drug campaign. From 2014 to 2024, authorities seized over 24 lakh kg of narcotics— that’s way more than the 3.6 lakh kg grabbed in the previous 10 years. “Just last year, we destroyed another 10 lakh kg,” he added.

Adding star power, actor and fitness guru Milind Soman steps in as the event’s brand ambassador and will join the runners. Surya praised him: “I’ve looked up to Milind since high school—he’s the fittest Indian around and a true role model for young people. But PM Modi remains the ultimate inspiration for India’s youth.”

Come Sunday, the ‘Namo Yuva Run’ will start with flag-offs across the country. It’s a powerful call for fitness, discipline, and a brighter, addiction-free future for millions of young Indians.
