Kolkata – Dec 10 (LatestNewsX) – On Wednesday, a fatal road mishap took the lives of Satyajit Ghosh, the son of Bhola Ghosh, and the driver, Shahnur Molla. Satyajit had been escorting his father to court in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, where Bhola was set to give testimony against the now‑suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan. The incident occurred on the state‑run Basanti Highway when a truck slammed into their car at high speed, sending the vehicle into a roadside gutter and killing both Satyajit and the driver on impact. Bhola survived but was badly shaken by the collision.
Both Bhola and his elder son, Biswajit Ghosh, insist that the crash was not an innocent accident. “The manner in which the truck collided with our car creates doubts that the aim was to kill me, since I am a witness in the case. I became senseless for some time after the collision. Everything seems to be pre‑planned. I wish the police administration to investigate the matter properly,” Bhola said.
Biswajit further suggested that two close associates of Sheikh Shahjahan—Moslem Khan and Sabita Roy—might have orchestrated the attack to prevent him from giving evidence. The Basirhat Police District has begun an inquiry, but authorities report that they have yet to receive any formal complaint alleging foul play as of Wednesday afternoon.
In the aftermath, Amit Malviya, BJP’s Information Technology Cell Chief and the party’s central observer for West Bengal, posted a response on social media:
> “This is the state of the law‑and‑order situation in West Bengal under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. One of the witnesses in the Sheikh Shahjahan case is grievously injured in a tragic accident in Sandeshkhali. Two more people lost their lives in the incident. The accident occurred at around 7 a.m. this morning in the Najat area of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas. Today, a hearing in the Sheikh Shahjahan case was scheduled in court. One of the key witnesses, Bhola Ghosh, was travelling with his son along Basanti Road to testify when a truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into their car,” Malviya’s statement read.
> “It is obvious that Shahjahan is eliminating witnesses one by one while sitting in jail. Is there any room for doubt that he has Mamata Banerjee’s patronage?” Malviya added.
Shahjahan remains in judicial custody on a range of charges, including alleged orchestration of an attack on Enforcement Directorate officials in Sandeshkhali last year, illegal land appropriation in the same area, and sexual exploitation of local women.
