India seen as global digital powerhouse: Govt official

New Delhi – A senior official from the Ministry of Electronics and IT highlighted how India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) has become a game‑changer for the country. Speaking at an event hosted by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Vinay Thakur explained how digital tools are helping every Indian—from cities to villages—access services quickly and easily.

“India’s DPI is one of the most advanced in the world,” Thakur said. He pointed to key projects like Aadhaar, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), DigiLocker, BharatNet, Co‑WIN, UMANG, MeghRaj Cloud, and BISAG‑N’s GIS‑based platforms. Together, these systems have made government services faster, more transparent, and more inclusive.

The speech underscored that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India campaign is at the heart of this progress. According to Thakur, the PM’s leadership turned technology into a tool for social inclusion, transparency, and economic growth. He added that cyber‑security must keep pace with this digital boom.

Highlights include:

  • Cyber‑security challenges – AI‑powered attacks and new cyber‑threats are rising. Thakur stressed the importance of India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and the need for post‑quantum cryptography (PQC) to stay ahead.
  • Digital sovereignty – Indigenous solutions can protect India’s growing digital ecosystem and keep data under its own control.
  • Future skills – The session’s host, Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, CEO of IICA, emphasized the need for future‑ready digital skills and secure technologies to drive socioeconomic progress.

Students, faculty and industry experts were active in the Q&A, exploring topics from data protection to emerging tech. The event showed how India’s digital transformation not only boosts services but also secures the nation’s place as a global digital powerhouse.
