In Washington, November 6 – India’s ambassador to the U.S., Vinay Mohan Kwatra, met U.S. Senator Steve Daines to talk about growing India‑U.S. trade, a new 10‑year defence framework and joint technology projects.
Kwatra thanked Senator Daines – a key member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee – for his help in deepening ties. “It was an honor to meet Senator Daines,” he posted on X. “We had an enriching conversation on trade, the defence framework and ways to work together on technology.” He praised the senator as a leader who keeps India‑U.S. priorities front and center in the Senate.
Earlier in the week, Kwatra welcomed U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur to India House. They discussed shared goals and how to strengthen diplomatic and trade relations. Kapur replied on X, thanking the ambassador for a “delightful visit” and the chance to talk about bilateral and regional priorities.
In related news, the White House confirmed that President Donald Trump respects Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that they talk “pretty frequently.” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted Trump’s recent Diwali celebration in the Oval Office, where he praised Modi and expressed love for the Indian people. The event also saw the arrival of U.S. Ambassador-to-India Sergio Gor, the new face of U.S. diplomacy in New Delhi.
The White House said Trump’s team is in “very serious discussions” with India about trade matters, signalling a continued push for stronger economic ties. With the new ambassador in place and trade talks underway, the India‑U.S. relationship shows signs of growing momentum.
