Rajasthan ATS team in Gujarat to probe Hanumangarh weapon link in terror plot

Jaipur – The Rajasthan Anti‑Terrorism Squad (ATS) has rushed a team to Gujarat after new evidence shows that three ISIS‑linked terrorists arrested by the Gujarat ATS were passing through Hanumangarh in Rajasthan.

The Gujarat investigators say the trio – Dr. Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed (35), Azad Suleman Shaikh (20) and Mohammad Suhail alias Mohammad Salim Khan (23) – traveled from Uttar Pradesh to Ahmedabad via Hanumangarh, carrying weapons that were allegedly dropped by drones from Pakistan.

While in custody, the suspects admitted they worked for ISIS and were planning attacks at several high‑profile sites across India. Police seized two Glock pistols, a Beretta, 30 rounds of ammunition and four litres of castor oil from Dr. Syed. Experts say the oil could be used to produce ricin, a dangerous poison.

The Karnataka ATS team is now investigating the route the men used and trying to find local helpers or hand‑guns suppliers in Rajasthan. The investigation focuses on whether any local “sleeper cells” or intermediaries helped smuggle arms from Pakistan to Gujarat.

Senior officer Sunil Joshi, deputy inspector general of Gujarat ATS, said the suspects were in contact with Abdul Khadija, a Pakistani handler linked to ISIS’s Khorasan Province branch. The court has kept the trio in ATS custody until November 17 for further questioning.

This is not the first time Pakistani drones have appeared over Rajasthan. Earlier months saw drug drops in Sriganganagar and Barmer districts, but weapons delivery marks a new threat level. The state’s intelligence agencies are under pressure to improve air‑space surveillance and share information with Gujarat’s police.

Hanumangarh, while not bordering Pakistan, sits next to Sriganganagar, a hotspot for arms and drug smuggling. The discovery of a drone‑delivered weapons cache shows how sophisticated the threat has become.

The Rajasthan ATS, along with Gujarat police, is now working to trace the network that enabled the smuggling. The goal is to cut off local facilitators and prevent future attacks.

Stay tuned for updates as the investigation continues to expose how Pakistani drones are bypassing Indian security lines to supply terror cells with weapons, posing a serious challenge to national safety.
