Ed Sheeran is working towards getting six pack abs the first time

Ed Sheeran, the Grammy-winning singer behind hits like “Perfect,” is on a mission to sculpt his first-ever six-pack abs.

The 33-year-old shared his fitness goal during a chat with Andy Cohen on Sirius XM’s Small Stage Series. “I put on a load of weight last year,” Sheeran explained. “I thought, ‘I’m gonna hit the gym heavy and try to lose a stone.’ Then I decided to push it further and see how far I can go.”

He’s never had defined abs before, which makes this challenge exciting for him. “I’ve never actually ever had a six-pack in my life,” he said. “I’m just gonna see if I can do it.”

Staying on track isn’t always easy, though. Sheeran admits he slips up sometimes. “I keep messing up because I’ll be out somewhere and think, ‘I’ll have a couple of beers,’ and it just happens,” he said. Still, he’s optimistic. “I’d say it’s going all right. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life.”

This isn’t Sheeran’s first rodeo with a fitness transformation. Back in 2019, he opened up about his journey on the Behind the Metal podcast. He quit smoking three years earlier and started exercising to clear out his lungs. “I love it now,” he shared. “When I stopped smoking, I knew my lungs were full of gunk, so I needed to get that out.”

Sheeran skips stuffy gyms in favor of outdoor workouts. “There’s nothing like fresh air to really clean you out,” he noted. “That’s why I started—for me, that’s the main reason.”

Beyond the physical changes, Sheeran has worked hard on finding balance in his life. He once poured everything into his music, leaving little room for happiness or personal connections. “In the first decade of my career, I was intensely unhappy because I had no balance,” he told The Sun newspaper. “It was just work, work, work. Everything was hyper-successful, but I had no personal life at all.”

These days, things look different. Married to Cherry Seaborn, with whom he shares daughters Lyra and Jupiter, Sheeran prioritizes family and friends. “Now, being able to spend time with them has become 70 percent of my life, and work is like 30 percent,” he said. “Before, it was 100 percent work and zero everything else.”

For Sheeran, true success means more than chart-topping songs. “The balance of getting to exist as a human being rather than just a pop star machine—that’s my measure of success.”
