Serial perv charged for 3rd time after using Long Island shopping plaza as female hunting ground: cops
A man has been caught on his third try. Aqeel Ahmad, 53, has been arrested a third time in three months after law‑enforcement officials discovered that he was taking inappropriate cellphone photos of women in public stores.
In September, police found out he had tried to capture a 25‑year‑old woman while she shopped at a Shoprite in Selden. That is the third count of unlawful surveillance that was filed against him.
The earliest arrest occurred last October, when the 13‑year‑old daughter of a Target employee chased Ahmad out of the Long Island location after he allegedly photographed her under her dress in a women’s fitting room.
A month later, he was taken into custody again in November for a second charge of unlawful surveillance, this time after he attempted a similar act on a 17‑year‑old in the same Shoprite. The shop itself has now become the scene of his predatory activity, according to police.
Ahmad is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Monday. The investigation is still ongoing, as officers search for evidence that he may have recorded or photographed other unsuspecting shoppers. Police urge anyone with more information to come forward.
