Srinagar – Kulgam police moved quickly on Wednesday to seize the assets of a known drug dealer, Ghulam Rasool Dar, of Vidoe Mishipora, Qaimoh. The raid was carried out under Section 68‑F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which lets authorities attach property linked to drug profits.
Dar is the son of the late Abdul Rehman Dar and is already in custody under the Prevention of Illegal Traffic in NDPS Act (PIT‑NDPS). He faces charges in FIR 62/2021 at Qaimoh police station, where police recovered 520 kg of poppy straw from his supply chain. He is now held at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu.
The team attached Dar’s property, worth about Rs 61 lakh, in front of local residents and the executive magistrate. Investigators say the money used to buy the house came from illegal drug sales. The operation is part of Kulgam’s broader campaign to break up the narcotics network and stop drug money from financing further trafficking.
SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Choudhary said the police are determined to wipe out drug crime from the district. “We will keep taking strict action against anyone involved in drug trafficking,” he told reporters. “Seizing assets earned from narcotics is a key step in destroying the supply chain and protecting our young people.”
Local residents praised the police’s bold move, noting how it raises security in the community. Kulgam police also urged the public to help by reporting drug dealers or suspicious activity, promising that informants’ identities will stay confidential.
