In New Delhi on Saturday, a decision was announced by the central Congress body to replace Pratibha Singh with senior leader Vinay Kumar as the new head of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, effective immediately. The announcement came via an official communication from the All‑India Congress Committee, with General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal issuing a brief statement. He reiterated that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had appointed Vinay Kumar as the “President of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.”
The statement went on to thank the outgoing chief, noting that the party valued the contributions of Smt. Pratibha Singh. However, the one‑page note issued from AICC headquarters in New Delhi stopped short of explaining why the change occurred or outlining any further restructuring at the state level.
Vinay Kumar, a well‑known organisational figure in Himachal Pradesh, has served in several roles across the state unit and legislature. His elevation comes as the state Congress government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, grapples with both administrative and internal organisational hurdles.
Pratibha Singh, a longtime senior party stalwart and Member of Parliament, broadly shaped the state unit over her multiple terms as HPCC president. The leadership shift arrives just before key political milestones in Himachal Pradesh and as Congress carries out broader restructuring efforts nationwide.
No other changes or appointments were linked to the Himachal Pradesh unit in the Saturday communication, marking another chapter in the party’s ongoing state‑level organisational review that has been unfolding across several states since the start of the year.
