Over 20,000 youths placed through 119 job fairs in Ahmedabad in two years

Gujarat is making big strides in creating jobs for its youth, and the latest numbers from the state assembly show just how effective these efforts are. Labour and Employment Minister Balvantsinh Rajput shared that 119 job fairs in Ahmedabad district over the past two years helped more than 20,000 young people land employment opportunities. That’s right—20,195 candidates got placed through these events, proving job fairs in Gujarat are a game-changer for job seekers.

To make things even easier, the Gujarat government launched the Anubandham web portal. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated it, and now jobseekers can register online from the comfort of their homes. Employers can post vacancies digitally too, connecting talent with opportunities faster than ever. This online job portal is a smart move to boost employment in Gujarat and reach more people across the state.

The state runs 46 employment exchanges under the Directorate of Employment and Training. These hubs offer everything from candidate registration and vacancy matching to career counselling and organizing job fairs. In Ahmedabad, big names like iComet HR India Pvt Ltd, Tata Motors, Zydus Lifesciences Ltd, and Unison Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd showed up as major recruiters, hiring fresh talent right on the spot.

Rajput highlighted special initiatives for marginalized groups. The government held seven job fairs just for Persons with Disabilities, resulting in 278 placements. Plus, two dedicated fairs for women helped 784 of them secure jobs. These targeted employment drives show Gujarat’s commitment to inclusive growth and empowering everyone in the workforce.

Gujarat has become one of India’s top employment hubs, with low unemployment rates and high workforce participation. According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2023–24, the state boasts the second-lowest unemployment rate in the country. Its Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) stands at 52.9 per cent for people aged 15 and above, with an impressive 78.4 per cent for males. Youth participation (ages 15–29) is the highest in India at 49.3 per cent.

The worker-population ratio looks strong too—52.6 per cent for higher secondary graduates, 67.3 per cent for postgraduates, and a whopping 81.9 per cent for male graduates in 2024. Looking ahead, estimates predict Gujarat’s unemployment rate will drop to just 1.7 per cent in 2025, way below the national average.

National schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana are fueling formal employment growth. It aims to create 35–40 lakh new jobs, formalize 20–25 lakh unorganized workers, and enroll 6–7 lakh women in sectors like manufacturing, textiles, construction, services, and IT. Investment is pouring in too—47 per cent of pharmaceutical MoUs from the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 are already up and running, generating over 20,000 jobs.

Between 2021 and 2022, Gujarat added nearly 800,000 jobs, pushing total employment to a record 26.7 million, mostly in salaried roles. Manufacturing drives 45 per cent of the state’s output, with key industries like textiles and apparel, automobiles, chemicals and petrochemicals, and gems and jewellery creating tons of employment opportunities.

From job fairs to digital portals and big investments, Gujarat’s employment landscape is thriving. If you’re a job seeker in Gujarat or tracking India’s job market trends, these updates highlight why the state leads in workforce participation and low unemployment.
