In the Hooghly district of West Bengal, a family‑sized tragedy shocked the town of Champdani on Saturday. Police said the home of Mohammed Keyamuddin, his wife Mumtaz Parveen, and their eight‑year‑old daughter Afsa was found in a grim scene. The wife and daughter lay on a bed, while Keyamuddin’s body hung from the ceiling draped in a veil. Authorities suspect he poisoned his family before taking his own life.
The investigation began when police noticed a message painted in green on a wall inside the room. It listed seven other family members and the number “7” was written beneath the list. Officers are questioning whether the names on the note were involved somehow and are reviewing every suspect in the family circle.
Keyamuddin worked as a clerk at the Barrackpore court in North 24 Parganas. Reports say he had strained relations with his brother and was under financial pressure. He had borrowed heavily and pushed his father to sell family land, but the father declined, worried about protecting the family’s future. Parveen and Afsa’s parents, both paralysed, live in a nearby house.
Police also highlighted rumors that Keyamuddin had secretly remarried five years earlier and that a woman from Barrackpore posted accusations against him on social media. All bodies were sent to Chunchura Imambara Hospital for post‑mortem examinations.
Deputy Commissioner Ishani Pal of the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate said, “Initial findings point to family unrest as a possible cause. The exact reason will be confirmed after the autopsy. A full investigation is underway.” The case is under close scrutiny as the local police work to uncover what led to this heartbreaking incident in West Bengal.
