Rajasthan GST conducts raids; tax evasion worth Rs 200 crore detected

Jaipur, Dec 13 (LatestNewsX) – Guided by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s zero‑tolerance policy against tax evasion and his pledge for a transparent tax administration, the State Commercial Tax Department (State GST) launched a sweeping statewide operation on Saturday.

Chief Commissioner Kumar Pal Gautam steered parallel inspections at 110 businesses across Rajasthan, revealing about Rs 200 crore in hidden taxes.

To carry this out, over 300 officers from the Commercial Tax Department were organised into special teams that conducted coordinated surveys in several districts at the same time.

Intelligence had flagged large‑scale tax evasion in a range of sectors—plywood, sanitary goods, iron scrap, tiles, edible oil, hotels, cotton, timber and real estate—prompting a focused, all‑encompassing campaign.

It’s the first instance a raid of this scale and breadth has been carried out simultaneously throughout the state, unsettling traders who have been evading taxes.

During the blitz, officers seized damning evidence—including handwritten ledgers and counterfeit invoices—from a number of sites.

A handful of traders admitted to evasion on the spot and voluntarily deposited roughly Rs 10 crore.

A meticulous review of the seized documents is ongoing, with officials predicting that the final recovery will be far larger.

The Commercial Tax Department said it will continue its intensive drive against tax evasion and will intensify similar operations in the days ahead.
