If Trump doesn’t allow Indian students, US varsities will come to India: CM Revanth Reddy

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Takes a Dig at Trump, Invites Top US Universities to Set Up Camp in Hyderabad

Hyderabad’s Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy made headlines on Friday by throwing shade at US President Donald Trump. Speaking at the 12th annual conference of the Public Affairs Forum of India in New Delhi, Reddy boldly declared that if Trump blocks Indian students from US universities, those very institutions will pack up and head to India instead. "If Trump doesn’t want Indians there, those universities are coming here. We’ve got space for the best American universities and manufacturing hubs," he said with a grin.

Reddy revealed he’s already in talks with heavyweights like Harvard and Stanford to kick off this exciting initiative. He even dropped that the London School of Economics is eyeing a spot in Telangana. It’s a smart move amid rising US visa tensions for Indian students, positioning Telangana as a global education hotspot.

But Reddy didn’t stop at education. He slammed Trump’s flip-flopping policies, like slapping a 50% tariff on India one day and calling PM Modi his buddy the next. "Such random decisions hurt the US economy more than ours," Reddy quipped. He added a cheeky local twist: "Telangana had its own Trump, but people kicked him out." That was a not-so-subtle jab at his predecessor, K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

Drawing from his own governance playbook, Reddy stressed that real progress needs vision, planning, and steady effort—not impulsive moves. "Trump dreams big one day and tries to make it happen the next. That doesn’t fly. The issues might linger for a bit," he noted. For Telangana, political will is key to building opportunities for the next generation.

To drive all-round growth, Reddy’s government unveiled the Telangana Vision Document 2047, set for official launch on December 9, 2025. They’ve smartly divided the state into core urban, semi-urban, and rural zones for balanced development. In bustling urban spots home to nearly one crore people, polluting industries are shifting out to cleaner areas. Semi-urban regions will buzz as manufacturing powerhouses.

Hyderabad’s getting a massive upgrade too. The Metro Rail network will stretch from 70 km to 150 km, aiming to boost daily riders from 5 lakh to 15 lakh. Reddy’s pumped about the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, which he says will rival the stunning Sabarmati Riverfront in Gujarat. Elevated corridors are popping up to cut traffic woes, and by 2027, electric vehicles will rule the roads, thanks to juicy government incentives.

Big infrastructure dreams are in the works: the Regional Ring Road and Bharat Future City will link everything seamlessly. Expect top-notch connectivity to the airport and Machilipatnam Port via a new Greenfield Expressway and a parallel railway line.

On the economic front, Telangana shines bright. It churns out 40% of India’s bulk drugs, and Hyderabad leads the world in vaccine production. The state tops the nation in cracking down on drug abuse. Reddy’s team is pushing organic farming hard and promising full support—plus security—to investors. "Come invest in Telangana, and be our brand ambassadors," he urged global and Indian businesses alike.

Investing in people is huge for Reddy. The government is launching Young India Skill University to train youth with job-ready skills, channeling Mahatma Gandhi’s "Young India" vibe. There’s also Young India Sports University, inspired by South Korea’s success, to help Indian athletes snag Olympic glory.

Reddy’s vision paints Telangana as India’s rising star—education, industry, and innovation all in one. With these plans, the state is all set to attract the world.
