RJD chief Lalu Yadav performs ‘pind daan’ with family at Vishnupad temple during Pitru Paksha fair in Gaya

Lalu Prasad Yadav Family Performs Pind Daan at Gaya’s Vishnupad Temple During Pitru Paksha Mela
In the heart of Bihar’s Gaya, the vibrant Pitru Paksha fair buzzed with devotion and a touch of politics on Tuesday. RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav arrived with his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav, and daughter-in-law Rajshree Yadav to visit the famous Vishnupad Temple. The family joined thousands of pilgrims for the sacred Pind Daan ritual, a key part of Pitru Paksha traditions.
Lalu Prasad Yadav led the way, offering Pind Daan at the temple’s 16th altar. This ancient ceremony honors ancestors and seeks their salvation, or moksha, a belief deeply rooted in Hindu customs. Pitru Paksha, also known as Shraddh period, runs for 16 days and draws lakhs of devotees every year who flock to Gaya—often called the land of salvation—for these rituals.
Tejashwi Yadav and Rajshree Yadav actively participated too, paying respects to their forefathers amid the lively atmosphere. Devotees and locals couldn’t help but notice the high-profile family, sparking chats about their commitment to family values and cultural heritage.
The Pitru Paksha Mela in Gaya continues until September 21, with pilgrims from across India and even abroad joining in. They perform Pind Daan, go on pilgrimages, and donate to the needy, keeping age-old traditions alive. The district administration stepped up with extra security, clean water supplies, sanitation facilities, and more to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
While the visit felt purely religious, it sent a strong message about upholding family bonds and traditions. Many see it as an inspiring example, blending personal faith with broader social vibes. The fair isn’t just about rituals—it’s a melting pot where religion, culture, and even politics mix seamlessly.
Just a day earlier, on Monday, actor Puneet Isser, famous for his role in the Mahabharat TV serial, also performed Pind Daan in Gaya. He gave a shoutout to the local administration for their excellent arrangements, making the pilgrimage hassle-free for devotees.
As the Pitru Paksha 2023 fair unfolds, Gaya remains a hotspot for those seeking peace for their ancestors through these timeless Pind Daan rituals.
