Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a new wave of investment in India’s farming and fishing communities on Saturday at Delhi’s Indian Agricultural Research Institute.
Modi unveiled two flagship schemes worth ₹35,440 crore: the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses. Both programmes aim to boost crop productivity and food security while helping farmers earn more money.
He also launched a suite of projects across agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and food processing that total over ₹5,450 crore—an amount that will bring modern tools, better livestock facilities and improved fish markets to thousands of small‑holder farms. In addition, Modi laid the foundation stone for new initiatives worth ₹815 crore.
Boosting the blue economy
Sixteen fishery projects, worth more than ₹693 crore, received a big boost under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF). The projects will build better fishing infrastructure, create jobs, increase exports and strengthen India’s maritime economy.

A ₹170 crore scheme to raise trout production and create employment in the region. -

Smart & Integrated Fishing Harbour – Karaikal, Puducherry
A ₹119.94 crore modern harbour that will secure safer docking, improve fish handling, and help export quality fish. -
Integrated Aqua Park – Hirakud, Odisha
A ₹100 crore eco‑friendly aquaculture hub that will support 1,600 cages, benefit 1,700 farmers and train 700 people in tilapia and pangasius farming, hatcheries and processing. -
Nutrition Hub of Sustainable Aquaculture – Amethi, Uttar Pradesh
A ₹70 crore centre that will produce eco‑friendly fish feed, boost production and improve farmer profits through advanced nutrition and modern aquaculture practices.
A focus on extra income for landless farmers
Modi highlighted how animal husbandry, fisheries and beekeeping are key ways to give low‑income and land‑less farmers new revenue streams. The national launch of these projects signals India’s growing commitment to a diversified, more sustainable agriculture sector and a healthier blue economy.
With these investments, India is setting the stage for stronger food production, higher earnings for farmers and a cleaner, more resilient coastal environment—benefiting the nation’s food security and rural prosperity.
