Shows how uneducated they are, won’t consider them cricketers: Mishra slams Yousuf for derogatory remarks on Suryakumar

Former Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra has slammed ex-Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf for using abusive language against India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav. Mishra called it a new low, highlighting the ugly side of cricket rivalries between the two nations.

Tensions between India and Pakistan spiked after a horrific terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where Pakistan-backed militants killed 26 tourists. Even with calls to boycott the Asia Cup match in Dubai on Sunday, the game happened amid massive controversy.

India crushed Pakistan by 7 wickets, and Suryakumar’s team made a strong statement by skipping the traditional post-match handshake. In response, Pakistan players boycotted the presentation ceremony.

Mishra backed Team India’s bold move. Talking to , he said, “I fully support the team’s decision to stay professional without friendly gestures. By playing the match, they honored the spirit of cricket.”

In his post-match speech, Suryakumar dedicated the win to the Indian Armed Forces. “This is the perfect moment to say we stand with the families hit by the Pahalgam terror attack. We dedicate this victory to our brave soldiers who inspire us all. We want to give them reasons to smile on the field,” he added.

Mishra praised this as a powerful message. “By not shaking hands, India reminded the world we haven’t forgotten Pahalgam. Dedicating the win brings pride and justice for every Indian.”

The drama grew when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) complained about match referee Andy Pycroft, claiming he broke ICC Code of Conduct and MCC laws on cricket’s spirit. But the International Cricket Council (ICC) rejected their appeal.

Several former Pakistan players criticized Suryakumar’s no-handshake call. Yousuf went further on Samaa TV, repeatedly mispronouncing Suryakumar’s name as “Suarkumar” and accusing India of manipulating umpires.

Mishra hit back hard at Yousuf’s derogatory remarks. “This shows Pakistan’s true colors. Their ex-players keep making such nonsense. Yousuf, a Test cricketer, sounds so uneducated. They’ve complained about the referee too, but India respected the game. We shouldn’t waste time on such people.”

He added, “I’m with Team India, and the whole nation stands by them. Indian legends never stoop to this level. It highlights the huge gap in thinking between India and Pakistan cricket.”

On Tuesday evening, Yousuf posted on X (formerly Twitter) to clarify, but it wasn’t exactly an apology. He brought up ex-India all-rounder Irfan Pathan’s old comment calling Shahid Afridi “barking like a dog.” Yousuf wrote, “I didn’t mean disrespect to any passionate sportsman, but why did Indian media praise Irfan Pathan for that? Shouldn’t everyone reject such talk if they value dignity?”
