Elton John just handed over the keys to his house to rising star Lola Young after losing a bold bet on her new song.
The music icon was so confident that Young’s track "Dealer" would top the charts that he wagered his mega mansion. But when the song peaked just shy of number one, Elton stayed true to his word. He filmed himself passing the keys to the 24-year-old British singer, as reported by Mirror.co.uk.
In the fun video, Elton jokes, "It’s not there yet, and it better hurry up, but in the meantime, I’m giving you the keys to the house. But can we stay the odd night?" Young quickly shoots back, "No sorry, it’s mine now." The clip wraps up with a photo of the duo and cheeky text: "I’m sure Elton spends all day wishing his house was still his too," followed by "sorry buddy" over the tune of her song.
Don’t worry, though—Elton isn’t backing down on his support for Young. He raves about "Dealer" as "the biggest smash I’ve heard in years" and even predicts it should be the lead single from her upcoming album. "If that isn’t number one, I bet my house that that’s the number one single," he told her. "It’s f** amazing. It’s unbelievable."
The bet might mean Young takes over Elton’s bedroom, but it hasn’t dimmed his enthusiasm. Young, a London native who studied at the famed BRIT School, first grabbed global attention with her breakout hit "Messy," drawing buzz from top names in the music industry.
Whether Young actually moves into the legendary singer’s sprawling home remains a mystery, but this lighthearted story shows the fun side of music mentorship and big bets on breakout artists like Lola Young.
