Lisa White, a longtime friend of Mayor Eric Adams, is leaving her post as deputy commissioner of employee relations at the NYPD after a career that began in the back‑up office of 911 dispatch. The move follows a tenure that saw her earn almost $300,000 in the past year, a big jump from the $53,000 she earned as a dispatcher for 24 years.
White first helped Adams when she rented a room in her Crown Heights apartment to the future mayor during the four years before he won the office. She also worked alongside him on the nonprofit he founded to champion fair treatment of Black officers in the department. When Adams took office, Commissioner Keechant Sewell, also a former Adams pick, appointed White to oversee the mental‑health and morale programs for all 35,000 uniformed officers—her salary began at roughly $241,000.
In fiscal 2024 White’s total compensation was reported at $283,963, and she receives an additional pension of about $30,000 from her previous dispatcher role. By comparison, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch draws $286,627.
The NYPD’s spokesperson said, “Deputy Commissioner Lisa White has dedicated her career to serving New York City, and for more than 30 years, she has worked at all levels of the NYPD. We thank her for her service to the department and wish her the very best in her retirement.”
Her office also plays a key role in supporting families who have lost loved ones while on duty. Scott Munro, president of the Detectives Endowment Association, noted, “She was always caring about the line‑of‑duty families and the fraternal organizations. She always tried to help them get what they needed.”
The images that accompanied the announcement show White with Mayor Adams at the Dominican Cultural Heritage Reception, as well as a photo of her leaving the apartment building at 47 McKeever Place in Brooklyn, where her six‑figure salary as deputy commissioner is highlighted.
