New Delhi, Nov 25 – Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. R. Naidu met with Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan to outline the Ministry’s latest plans for strengthening India’s civil aviation, linking them to modern global standards and domestic priorities.

At Parliament House, the Vice‑President was informed about the government’s focus on affordable air travel and its key infrastructure projects. These include the opening of new airports, the expansion of flight routes, and the development of greenfield facilities, all aimed at boosting passenger volumes and promoting “Atmanirbharta” in the sector. He also received details on the RCS‑UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, designed to improve operations on unserved and underserved routes, support balanced regional growth, and make flying more accessible to ordinary citizens.

The briefing touched on the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen the MRO ecosystem and its push toward cleaner energy use at airports to cut carbon emissions. Moreover, the Vice‑President was briefed on the main provisions of the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, a landmark law meant to modernise India’s aviation industry by enhancing safety, fostering innovation, and ensuring global compliance.

In his remarks, the Vice‑President stressed how initiatives such as UDAN empower local communities and unlock regional economic and tourism opportunities. He praised the Ministry’s work in revitalising unused airstrips and underscored the need to train more pilots to keep pace with the sector’s rapid growth, according to the statement.

India’s civil aviation has become one of the fastest‑growing sectors worldwide, placing the country as the third‑largest domestic aviation market. The number of airports rose from 74 in 2014 to 163 in 2025. Looking ahead to the centenary of independence, the government has set an ambitious agenda: expanding the airport network from 163 in 2025 to over 350 by 2047 and aiming to surpass one billion passengers in that timeframe.
