He called the move “historic and unprecedented.” Trump said all hostages would be released soon, while Israeli troops would withdraw to a line agreed upon in Egyptian talks. He praised the mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey and added a biblical quote: “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
During a briefing, Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly whispered to Trump that the parties were close to a deal. Trump told journalists he could travel to the region as early as Saturday.
The breakthrough comes two years after Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel that killed about 1,250 Israelis and seized roughly 250 hostages. Israeli counter‑offensives have reportedly killed around 67,000 civilians in Gaza, and the United Nations warns of famine‑like conditions after relief supplies were blocked.
