Hyderabad, Dec 10 (LatestNewsX) – Telangana’s Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, declared on Wednesday that he intends to elevate Osmania University (OU) to a global standard, announcing a ₹1,000‑crore development package for the institution.
During a visit to the historic Arts College building on the OU campus, the CM expressed his determination to transform the university into an international hub.
Earlier that day, the state government sanctioned the ₹1,000‑crore infrastructure investment, and a draft master plan for the campus was unveiled.
A special QR code was released by the CM, inviting students to provide feedback and suggestions on the proposed design.
Planned enhancements include new roads, cycling paths, a sports complex, library, gym, entrance gates, the Osmania Plaza, a memorial, convention centre, amphitheatre, academic research centre, student commons, learning greens, hostel zone, multipurpose hall, dining centre, health centre, and other facilities across the sprawling campus.
The university confirmed that the final master plan will be shaped by student input.
In his remarks, the Chief Minister highlighted Telangana’s rich history and the university’s role in championing the call for a separate state.
He pointed out notable alumni such as P.V. Narasimha Rao, Jaipal Reddy, George Reddy and Gaddar.
Revanth Reddy recalled OU’s prominence during the second phase of the Telangana movement and alleged that the former BRS administration had weakened the campus for a decade.
He noted that the aspirations of Telangana’s people for freedom, social justice and equal opportunity were largely realised after the Congress took office two years ago.
The CM added that he visited the campus to assess whether those aspirations had been met.
“Some people asked me how I am so courageous to visit Osmania University. What is needed to come here is not courage but admiration,” he said. “I have come here with a heart full of admiration to pave the way for the university’s development.”
He listed several initiatives undertaken by his government, including the official recognition of “Telangana Thalli” (Mother Telangana), the designation of ‘Jaya Jayahe Telangana’ as the state song, a caste census, and a detailed sub‑classification of Scheduled Castes for social justice.
Revanth Reddy stressed that education alone can eradicate backwardness: “Lack of land may perpetuate poverty, but lack of education breeds backwardness,” he said, urging a focus on quality learning.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to providing high‑standard education to all, asserting that education can reshape destinies and illuminate lives.
“We are establishing integrated residential schools to eliminate caste barriers and discrimination. We have launched Young India Skills University to nurture youth skills, with Anand Mahindra as Chairperson, and we have appointed distinguished individuals as directors,” he added.
He also mentioned the creation of Young India Sports University, aimed at preparing athletes for the 2036 Olympics, with icons such as Abhinav Bindra and Kapil Dev on the board of directors.
“Those who have money study at international universities. My goal is to help the poor,” Reddy said, explaining the decision to elevate Osmania University to international stature.
Born in a remote village and schooled in a government institution, he acknowledged critics who claim his English is weak. “I may not speak a foreign language, but I can read the minds of the poor and understand their concerns.”
He told students that language should not be a hurdle: “English is merely a medium of communication; countries like China, Japan and Germany succeed without it.”
“My young brothers need not worry if they don’t know English. It’s not a big deal. Am I not running the state?” he queried.
