Ministers, ISRO Chairman hail successful launch of India’s heaviest communication satellite

New Delhi, Nov 2 – India celebrated a major space milestone today when the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched CMS‑03, the country’s heaviest communication satellite. The satellite, carried by the LVM3‑M5 “Bahubali” rocket, reached its target geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) from Sriharikota, boosting India’s space‑based communications and maritime domain awareness across the Indian Ocean.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman praised ISRO’s progress, saying, “Well done, ISRO. You’ve crossed many milestones, and your team’s work will bring even more achievements. Best wishes to everyone at ISRO.” Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia congratulated the scientists, noting that CMS‑03 “shows how innovation and vision keep India’s space sector moving forward, touching lives and driving national progress.” He highlighted that the satellite’s launch “is a shining example of India’s growing space capabilities.”
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh described the launch as a “Bahubali” success, noting it’s the first time a satellite the weight of CMS‑03 left Indian soil into GTO. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the government’s strong support.
ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan said the mission “underscores India’s ability to develop and deploy advanced space assets independently.” Experts called the launch a monumental achievement, emphasizing India’s rising prowess in heavy‑payload deliveries for strategic and commercial use.
The CMS‑03 launch marks a new chapter for the Indian space sector, strengthening communications, connectivity, and maritime awareness across the Indian Ocean region. It also signals India’s steady climb as a key player in global space development. —
