Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Backs Rahul Gandhi’s Vote Theft Claims in Aland Constituency
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has thrown his full support behind Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s latest allegations of vote chori in the Aland assembly segment. Speaking out on Thursday, Siddaramaiah said Gandhi’s revelations show how Indian democracy faces systematic attacks through centralized efforts to steal votes.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the CM highlighted the Aland case in Kalaburagi district as more than just a one-off problem. "It’s a glimpse into a bigger plot to tamper with electoral rolls and rob citizens of their voting rights," he wrote. Siddaramaiah questioned if Aland is just the tip of the iceberg. He pointed out that in 2018, the BJP won the seat by a slim margin. Then, in 2023, around 6,000 deletions were attempted from the voter list. Even in 2024, BJP led in that area. "How many such vote manipulation tricks have slipped under the radar in other constituencies? How many election results got twisted because of this?" he asked.
This comes after Rahul Gandhi accused a group of targeting voters from opposition parties, especially OBC, Dalit, and marginalized communities. He slammed the Election Commission of India (ECI) for not helping the Karnataka Crime Investigation Department (CID) probe into voter fraud in Aland.
But the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) quickly fired back. In a statement, the CEO said all bogus applications for voter deletions were rejected back in 2023, and an FIR was even filed. Here’s what happened: In December 2022, the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) in Aland got 6,018 online Form 7 applications to delete names from the voter list in the 46-Aland Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC).
Officials grew suspicious about so many applications at once, so they checked each one carefully with the help of Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Out of those, only 24 turned out to be real. The remaining 5,994 were fake and got tossed out—no names were deleted from the rolls.
The CEO’s response directly addresses Gandhi’s claims today, stressing that the poll body acted fast to stop any voter list tampering. As the debate heats up over election integrity and vote chori in Karnataka, many are watching closely to see if more details emerge from the ongoing CID investigation.
