Final day of campaigning for Delhi MCD bypolls

New Delhi – On Friday, the last day of the November 30 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by‑poll campaign, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ramped up their efforts to persuade voters in the 12 wards set to go to the polls.

Party elders roamed the city, making impromptu pleas to secure backing in a highly watched municipal showdown.

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, led the BJP’s push on Thursday, holding several public rallies and a road‑show. At a gathering in Chhatta Lal Mian that supported Chandni Mahal‑ward candidate Sunil Sharma, she urged residents to elect BJP councillors so that the city can reap the benefits of the party’s “all‑round development agenda.”

She also stopped by Maharishi Valmiki Marg in Dakshinpuri to champion the BJP’s candidate, Rohini Raj, from Ward 164. Senior figures—including MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, district president Arvind Garg, district in‑charge Rajesh Bhatia, election coordinator Atif Rashid, state co‑office secretary Amit Gupta, and state spokesperson Yasir Jilani—joined her at various events, reinforcing the message of stability and progress.

Later, BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva addressed a sizeable Punjabi‑Sindhi audience in Ashok Vihar, offering his support to candidate Veena Asija. He reminded Delhiites that the BJP presented the “only viable option” for better maintenance and infrastructure in the capital.

The party’s focus was framed as a pledge of pure governance. “The BJP government has only one agenda: development and the better maintenance of Delhi,” the leaders reiterated at multiple venues.

Across the street, the Aam Aadmi Party pressed on with its own counter‑campaign. Earlier in November, at the launch of the AAP by‑poll drive in Dwarka, Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the BJP for mismanaging institutions and failing on basic civic duties. “Garbage not cleaned, sewers not cleared, pollution not reduced; BJP failed on every promise it made to Delhi,” he declared, demanding cleaner, accountable governance for the capital.

These 12‑ward by‑polls are expected to set a benchmark for Delhi’s next phase of civic politics, with the two major parties treating the contest as a referendum on development, cleanliness, and local governance. Voting will take place on November 30, with counting and results slated for early December.
