Exercise Trishul: More than 40 IAF jets; 30,000 army personnel and 20-25 Navy assets participate

New Delhi, Nov 10 – After the 2023 Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps deep inside Pakistan, Indian security forces launched a large‑scale Tri‑Service Exercise called Trishul on Nov. 3. The drill brought together the Indian Navy, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard and Border Security Force (BSF) in a joint show of strength.

The exercise fielded 20–25 naval vessels, including amphibious ships, over 40 aircraft and the ground equipment of the army, with a total of 30,000 personnel. It ran across Rajasthan, Gujarat and the northern Arabian Sea from Nov. 3 to 7. The Coast Guard, BSF and other central agencies joined in, highlighting the country’s push for jointness, self‑reliance (Aatmanirbharta) and innovation.

Senior officials said the focus was on modern threats that hit all domains—land, sea, air, cyber and the electromagnetic spectrum. The drills covered electronic warfare, cyber operations, drone and counter‑drone tactics, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), and air‑defence control and reporting. “We’re proving that the army, navy and air force can fight together in both the virtual and physical arenas,” an official said.

In the Thar Desert, Southern Command’s blocks carried out exercises Maru Jwala and Akhand Prahaar to test combined‑arms maneuvers and joint fire under realistic conditions. The Army’s Brahma Shira drill in the Rann and Creek Sector integrated all three services, the Coast Guard and BSF with local civil agencies, again emphasizing seamless cooperation across land, sea and air.

Trishul is a key part of India’s Decade of Transformation initiative, which aims to modernise forces through jointness, restructuring, technology infusion, system upgrades and skill development. The exercise demonstrates the armed forces’ commitment to being self‑reliant, technologically advanced and fully integrated—ready to meet the complex security challenges of South Asia.
