Oppn parties assure support for smooth functioning of Odisha Assembly session from Sep 18

Odisha Assembly Monsoon Session Kicks Off Soon: Parties Unite for Smooth Sailing
In Bhubaneswar, leaders from all major parties gathered for an important meeting ahead of the Odisha Assembly’s Monsoon Session. Set to start on September 18, the session promises lively debates on key issues affecting everyday Odishans.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM KV Singh Deo, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling represented the ruling BJP. From the opposition, BJD’s senior leader and chief whip Pramila Mallik joined, along with Congress CLP leader Rama Chandra Kadam and others. Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy led the discussions, urging everyone to keep things productive.
Speaker Padhy highlighted the positive vibe at the meeting. "All parties promised to cooperate fully, sticking to legislative rules," she said. "We look forward to real talks on public concerns that can bring real benefits to Odisha’s people." She also stressed the need for discipline: "I want all MLAs to share their thoughts wisely, respect the House’s decorum, and add value to our sessions."
The session has a packed schedule. It begins on September 18 with obituary references to honor the departed. September 19 focuses on Private Members’ Bills, and from September 20 to 25, the House will tackle official business. This setup ensures a mix of tributes, member-led proposals, and government priorities.
BJD leader Pramila Mallik spoke to reporters after the meeting, assuring full support for the House’s smooth run under constitutional guidelines. "We’ll raise vital issues for the people—like farmers’ struggles, women’s safety, and challenges faced by SCs and STs," she added. The opposition BJD plans to grill the government on the ongoing fertiliser crisis hitting farmers hard and the rising cases of atrocities against women in Odisha.
Minister Mahaling echoed the cooperative spirit but made it clear the BJP is ready for tough questions. "Our government is prepared to discuss anything the opposition brings up, especially on farmers, teachers, students, and women," he said. The BJP aims to spotlight the BJD’s 24-year rule, the past Congress government’s record, and its own wins in the last 15 months. They’ll also share future plans for public welfare during the Odisha Assembly session.
Tensions simmered when talk turned to politics. Congress has hinted at a no-confidence motion against the BJP government, possibly with BJD backing. But Mahaling dismissed it outright. "Odisha’s people gave BJP a strong mandate. Plus, BJD and Congress have clashing ideologies—no way they’ll team up," he stated firmly. With Congress lacking the numbers in the Assembly, this challenge seems unlikely to gain traction.
As the Monsoon Session approaches, Odisha’s political scene buzzes with anticipation. Expect heated exchanges on farmers’ woes, women’s issues, and state development, all aimed at serving the people’s needs. Stay tuned for updates from Bhubaneswar as the Assembly dives into action.
