Telangana CM confident of Congress win in Jubilee Hills bypoll

Telangana’s chief minister, A. Revanth Reddy, told a press conference in Hyderabad on Friday that the Congress party is set to win the Jubilee Hills seat in the coming by‑election.

Reddy spoke directly to voters, saying that the current ruling parties – Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – are unlikely to even keep their deposits in the November 11 vote. He urged residents of the constituency to choose the Congress candidate so that the state can keep moving forward without political roadblocks.

The chief minister compared the state’s progress under Congress (2004‑2014) with that under BRS (2014‑2023). He pointed out that Congress handed Telangana to BRS leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) with a surplus budget of ₹16,000 cr. but that the state returned with a debt of ₹8.11 lakh cr. in 2023.

“Our work in Hyderabad was laid by the Congress.” Reddy said, listing major projects such as the new international airport, Hyderabad Metro, Outer Ring Road, knowledge centres, and the growth of the IT and pharma sectors. He claimed that the BJP and BRS blocked the Information Technology and Investment Region (ITIR) that Congress had already approved at the centre.

Highlighting corruption, Reddy criticised Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) as “bad brothers” who have impeded projects like the Musi Riverfront, Godavari water diversion, and expansion of Hyderabad Metro. He also accused Kishan Reddy of failing to secure any funds from the centre when floods struck Hyderabad.

Reddy accused KCR of building the new secretariat complex to secure a “vasthu” advantage for his son, rather than creating jobs or helping the poor. He said the complex was used for surveillance and even had bulletproof bathrooms. The chief minister slammed KCR for the costly Kaleshwaram project and the sale of the Outer Ring Road for only ₹7,000 cr., when a ₹1 lakh cr. revenue was possible.

On the development side, Reddy said the state is working on a “Telangana Rising 2047” vision. It has secured permissions for new airports in Warangal and Adilabad and is pursuing a greenfield highway to a dry port. The government also plans to expand Hyderabad Metro at a cost of ₹43,000 cr.

“Even in the first six months after we took office we lost time in the parliamentary elections, yet in just a year and a half we attracted ₹3 lakh cr. in investment,” Reddy added.

Finally, he raised concerns about 44 lakes around Hyderabad that BRS leaders have encroached upon. While his government attempts to clear these encroachments, he said political interests continue to obstruct the restoration of the lakes.
