Jaipur, Dec 5 ( LatestNewsX ) – Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is set to head to Sri Ganganagar for a single‑day trip on Friday, where he will kick off the rebuild of the Firozpur Feeder as confirmed by a government bulletin today.
The refit is expected to deliver a reliable, year‑round water supply to the Gang Canal, ensuring timely irrigation for both the Rabi and Kharif harvests.
According to the itinerary, the chief minister will leave Jaipur, touch down at Suratgarh Airport at 12:20 p.m., and then fly via helicopter to the ceremony site. After the laying‑of‑stone event and speaking to the assembled crowd, he will return to Suratgarh around 2:30 p.m. and later travel on to Phalodi.
The scope of the project covers cement‑concrete lining from RD 0 to RD 168.230, along with the restoration of two existing head regulators, the installation of a new head regulator, a cross regulator, nineteen VRB/DRB structures, and three railway‑crossing bridges.
These works will raise the volume of water flowing from the Harike Barrage into the Firozpur Feeder, directly increasing the water flow into the Gang Canal. Farmers across 314 000 hectares stand to benefit, with enhanced irrigation efficiency and higher crop yields projected.
The approved budget for the renovation totals ₹647.62 crore, split between Punjab’s ₹379.12 crore contribution and Rajasthan’s ₹268.50 crore.
Former Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Singh Rathore hailed the approval as a landmark, farmer‑focused move that finally meets a long‑awaited demand. He noted that the project aligns with the centenary of the Gang Canal and signals the government’s dedication to bringing Maharaja Ganga Singh’s vision into a modern, sustainable reality.
State BJP vice‑president Surendra Pal Singh TT welcomed the initiative, comparing it to a contemporary Bhagirath effort that promises to reshape the future for millions of farmers.
