India and Georgia are taking their friendship to new heights, with booming tourism, student exchanges, and better flight connections bringing the two nations closer than ever. Georgia’s Ambassador to India, Vakhtang Jaoshvili, shared these exciting updates in a chat with on Saturday, highlighting how people-to-people ties are stronger now than in years past.
Jaoshvili couldn’t hide his excitement about the rush of Indian visitors to Georgia. “It’s a real pleasure to promote travel and studies between our countries,” he said. More Indians are picking Georgia as their go-to spot for vacations and education, and the bonds feel tighter than ever.
Just last year, around 124,000 Indian tourists explored Georgia’s stunning landscapes and culture. And get this—in the first six months of this year, that number jumped by a whopping 40%. “We’re thrilled to see so many Indians discovering what we have to offer,” Jaoshvili added. He credits the surge to better awareness of Georgia’s attractions and smoother travel options.
Speaking of flights, connectivity has transformed dramatically. A few years back, direct flights between India and Georgia were a rarity. But now? IndiGo runs daily services from Delhi to Tbilisi, plus three weekly flights from Mumbai to Tbilisi via Delhi. “The demand is growing fast, so we expect even more flights soon,” the ambassador noted. This boost in air travel underscores Georgia’s commitment to deepening India-Georgia relations.
These developments build on high-level talks earlier this year. In March, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue 2025. They discussed ramping up ties in trade, investment, tourism, and education to unlock new opportunities.
Botchorishvili, on her first visit to India, was equally enthusiastic. “India is a key partner for Georgia, and we want to grow our political and economic links,” she told . She pointed out Georgia’s prime spot as a bridge between Europe and Asia, making it ideal for trade, logistics, and more. Plus, with its natural beauty and welcoming vibe, Georgia is fast becoming a favorite for Indian tourists and students.
As both countries push for structured dialogues and collaborations, the future looks bright for India-Georgia bilateral ties. Whether you’re planning a trip or curious about studying abroad, Georgia’s rising popularity might just be your next adventure.
