Minor girl dies after iron rod falls on her in Delhi’s Jagatpuri Extension

A heartbreaking accident in East Delhi has claimed the life of a five-year-old girl. The tragedy unfolded in Jagatpuri Extension when an iron rod fell from a nearby under-construction building, striking her as she walked down a lane.

Police from GTB Enclave station received an emergency call around 11 a.m. on September 28 about the incident in Gali No. 4. Officers and medical teams rushed to the scene and found the young girl with serious injuries. They quickly took her to GTB Hospital, where doctors treated her for severe head trauma and damage to her right eye. Despite round-the-clock care in the ICU, she passed away during treatment.

Investigators learned that workers on a four-storey building had used the iron rod to build a platform for a water tank on the roof. It slipped and fell, hitting the child by chance. Her father filed a complaint, leading police to arrest the building owner, 68-year-old Nathu Singh, and three laborers involved in the construction site work.

Authorities seized the iron rod as evidence and shut down all building activity at the site. Officials promise tough measures against anyone guilty of negligence in this fatal construction accident, aiming to prevent similar tragedies in Delhi’s busy neighborhoods.
