Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted the vital role of forensic odontology in solving crimes and delivering justice during his speech at the 2nd International Conference on Odontology. Speaking at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Saha, a trained dental surgeon himself, stressed how this branch of forensic science bridges theory and real-world action.
“Forensic odontology isn’t just fascinating—it’s essential for society and the legal system,” Saha said. He pointed out that the conference’s theme perfectly captures the need to turn discussions into practical solutions that aid investigations. As someone with a background in dentistry, he knows firsthand how bite marks, dental records, and other oral evidence can crack tough cases.
Saha praised NFSU as the world’s first university dedicated to forensic behavioral science, cybersecurity, digital forensics, and related fields. He shared a fun moment of initial doubt but confirmed it’s truly unique. Earlier known as Gujarat Forensic Science University, it gained national importance under then-Chief Minister Narendra Modi, now India’s Prime Minister.
Bringing it home, Saha noted that NFSU has launched courses at its Tripura campus, thanks to support from Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. As Tripura’s Health and Family Welfare Minister too, he expressed gratitude for this boost to education in the Northeast.
He even suggested a bold idea: starting a two-year M.Sc. in Forensic Odontology at the NFSU Tripura campus to build expertise and job opportunities in the region. “This will help train more professionals right here,” he told the Vice-Chancellor.
Saha invited conference attendees to visit Tripura and witness its rapid growth. The state now boasts three medical colleges with 400 seats, and more expansions are on the way. “Tripura is peaceful and progressing, thanks to our leaders’ efforts to integrate the Northeast into India’s mainstream,” he added, crediting Modi and Shah for the positive changes.
