Viral drunk raccoon is a serial break-in artist who’s struck at least three buildings — and is still kicking
The raccoon that made headlines in Virginia for drunkenly guzzling bourbon, staggering to a toilet, and falling asleep among the shelves is apparently a repeat offender. Officer Samantha Martin, who works for Hanover County Animal Protection, has confirmed that the half‑cocked critter has broken into at least three different locations and survived to brag—well, to share, in the form of a viral video—to the rest of the country.
According to Martin, the “madcap” animal has long been slipping into nearby businesses for the good stuff. “This isn’t the first time we’ve had him inside any of these places,” she told reporters Thursday. She then highlighted that it’s actually the third time the raccoon has caused a stir. “He’s busted into a karate studio, slipped into the DMV, and even snacked on some of their treats,” she said on the local podcast “Hear In Hanover.”
After the incident at the Ashland liquor store on November 28, the intoxicated furball spent the night sobering up and was eventually released near the ABC Store. The night left a trail of broken whiskey and gin bottles across the Black Friday scene. “We can’t relocate him; it would be a death sentence for a raccoon,” Martin added. “But somehow he always seems to find a way back in. He’s a clever little dude.”
The viral episode has spurred a strange wave of merchandise, from t‑shirts to coffee mugs. Bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts have even coined new drinks to honor the escapade. “We’re seeing the ‘Trash Panda Old Fashioned’ and a twist on the ‘Midnight Masked Gin Fizz’,” reported the local bar scene. The raccoon’s antics even inspired a new recipe featuring a midnight gin twist.
Martin hopes this will be the final burglary for the “blotto bandit.” “I hope he learned his lesson,” she said. “But I’m just going to tell him, ‘Enjoy your life.’ He’s basically living his best life—why not? If you’re celebrating Black Friday, a drink or two might work.”
