On December 1, residents of Jaipur learned that the Rajasthan Police’s CID Intelligence Wing had booked a 34‑year‑old Punjab youth for spying on behalf of Pakistan’s ISI. The suspect, Prakash Singh — also called Badal — hails from Ferozepur, Punjab, and was caught near a military installation in Sri Ganganagar district. Authorities report that he had been sending images and footage to Pakistan while tracking Indian Army movements.
Praful Kumar, the CID Intelligence Inspector General, said that Badal had been linked to ISI operatives through social media, especially WhatsApp. “He was in touch with the ISI since the time of ‘Operation Sindoor,’” Kumar explained. “He would send photos and videos of Army activity in Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat—vehicle movements, bases, bridges, roads, railway lines near the border, and new construction projects.”
Kumar further revealed that the young man had created fake WhatsApp accounts by tricking civilians into giving him their one‑time passwords. Pakistani handlers then used these accounts to carry out espionage and other anti‑national acts, and Badal received substantial payments for his work.
On November 27, security forces reported suspicious activity around the Sadhuwali military area in Sri Ganganagar. The Border Intelligence Team detained the suspect, found chats with multiple Pakistani numbers on his phone, and took him to the Joint Interrogation Centre in Sri Ganganagar before moving him to Jaipur. He was interrogated by several intelligence agencies, and digital evidence confirmed his spying.
In the early hours of December 1, a charge under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, was filed at Jaipur’s Special Police Station and Badal was formally arrested. Investigators are now probing whether other people in Rajasthan and Punjab are linked to his spy network.
