Cricket fans in India have some big changes to cheer about from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On Sunday, the 94th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in New Delhi wrapped up with fresh leadership picks and key committee updates.
Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas steps up as the new BCCI president. A Raghuram Bhat takes on the role of treasurer, bringing new energy to the board’s finances. Devajit Saikia stays on as secretary, while Prabhtej Bhjatia joins as joint secretary.
In other moves, ex-Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah lands a spot on the BCCI Apex Council, replacing Mizoram’s Khairul Jamal Majumdar. Majumdar shifts to the IPL Governing Council, teaming up with chairperson Arun Dhumal to oversee the popular Indian Premier League (IPL).
The meeting also greenlit the audited accounts for the 2024-25 financial year and approved the 2025-26 annual budget, keeping BCCI’s operations on track.
Shifting to team selections, the men’s selection committee gets a boost with former India bowlers RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha joining the ranks. They replace S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee, working alongside chairperson Ajit Agarkar, Shiv Sundar Das, and Ajay Ratra. RP Singh, who played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs, and 10 T20Is from 2005 to 2011, grabbed 124 wickets and helped India win the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup. Pragyan Ojha, a crafty left-arm spinner, featured in 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and 6 T20Is from 2008 to 2013, snagging 144 wickets overall.
For the women’s side, Amita Sharma leads the new selection committee, joined by Jaya Sharma, Sulakshana Malik, Sravanthi Naidu—all fresh faces—and Shyama Dey.
Junior cricket development sees S Sharath return as chairperson of the junior committee. His team includes Harvinder Sodhi, Pathik Patel, Krishna Mohan, and Ranadeb Bose.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) committee now has Jayesh George at the helm, with members like Manhas, Shukla, Saikia, Prabhtej, Raghuram, Madhumati Lele, Sanjay Tandon, RI Palani, and Dhumal rounding out the group.
Finally, the infrastructure committee taps Rohan Jaitley—president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA)—as chairperson. He’ll guide Manhas, Shukla, Saikia, Prabhtej, Raghuram, Anirudh Chaudhary, and Sana Sathish Babu in boosting cricket facilities across India.
These updates signal a dynamic phase for Indian cricket, from domestic setups to international stars.
