Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Sydney on Wednesday and spent the first day praying at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. At the temple, he led an aarti and thanked the temple’s children for singing devotional hymns. Singh explained that the concept of dharma—traditionally seen as a moral code—protects everything in the universe, from living beings to the laws that keep society orderly.
After the temple ceremony, Singh met with Australian officials. He said his discussions with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs were “productive and meaningful.” The leaders praised India’s rapid development, noting how the country’s progress now gives it a respected voice on the global stage.
While speaking to the Indian diaspora, Singh highlighted a touching moment when children sang the national anthems of both India and Australia. He said the event showed “warmth and mutual respect” between the two nations.
The Defence Minister also co‑chaired an India‑Australia Defence Industry Round Table with Australian Assistant Minister of Defence Peter Khalil. They discussed ways to deepen cooperation in defence technology and strengthen the partnership between the two armed forces.
Singh’s two‑day visit to Sydney included meetings with senior Australian officials and delegation members. He praised India’s transformation from a once‑poverty‑stricken country to a confident, rapidly growing democracy that now plays an active role in international forums. The visit underlined India’s expanding influence, both politically and in defence innovation, and the growing respect between the Indian and Australian governments.
