De Paul completes permanent Inter Miami move

Fort Lauderdale, Dec 12 – Inter Miami announced that the club has activated the purchase option to sign Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul on a permanent basis. The 31‑year‑old joined the team on loan from Atlético Madrid in July and played 17 league games, even scoring in the MLS Cup final against the Vancouver Whitecaps to help Miami claim its first MLS Cup. De Paul’s contract with Atlético ran until June 2026; he had moved there from Udinese in 2021. The club didn’t reveal the terms of his new deal.

The Florida side also stated it is in “ongoing negotiations” with out‑of‑contract Uruguay striker Luis Suárez and Argentine forward Tadeo Allende, whose loan at Celta Vigo expires this month. The upcoming MLS season is set to start on February 21 next year.

In other news, Inter Miami has secured Academy product and 2025 MLS Cup champion Ian Fray with a contract extension through the 2028‑29 season, with an option to extend into 2029‑30. Fray, who made his breakthrough via the club’s Player Development Pathway, completed his third first‑team season in 2025, tallying 35 appearances, one goal and four assists across all competitions. After signing as a Homegrown Player in 2021, he missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons due to long‑term injuries but returned in 2023. Since then he has been part of the squads that won the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 Supporters’ Shield (setting a new MLS single‑season points record), the 2025 MLS Eastern Conference title, and the MLS Cup.
