Stephen Colbert had the crowd roaring at the 2025 Emmy Awards when he took a playful jab at his soon-to-be ex-employer, CBS. The Late Show host, who’s wrapping up his iconic late-night gig, walked onstage to a huge standing ovation and wasted no time turning his job hunt into comedy gold.
“While I have your attention, is anyone hiring?” Colbert quipped, drawing laughs from the star-studded audience. He even pulled out his own resume, joking that he hadn’t updated his headshot yet. To prove it, he whipped out an old, dated photo and said, “I think it still works… I only have the one.”
The fun didn’t stop there. Colbert spotted Harrison Ford in the crowd and strolled over, asking the legendary actor if he could pass the headshot along to Steven Spielberg. Classic Colbert – keeping things light-hearted amid the buzz.
He was on hand to present the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award, which went to Seth Rogen for his hilarious role in The Studio. But the real talk was about Colbert’s future. Back in July, he announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would end in 2026 after over 30 years on air. CBS called it a “purely financial” decision, though some fans speculate his sharp political satire – especially his takes on the current administration – might have influenced the call.
Earlier that night, on the Emmy Awards red carpet, Colbert chatted with E! alongside his wife, Evie. When asked what viewers can look forward to, he kept it upbeat: “We’ve got nine more months of the show. We’re going to have a really good time.” He admitted the daily grind is intense – “this show is all-consuming every day” – but he’s focused on making the most of it.
Colbert’s also in the running for an Emmy in the outstanding talk series category.
