Lucknow, Oct 21 – As the nation lit diyas and rang firecrackers, the city of Lucknow added its own splash of colour to Diwali celebrations. Streets filled with patriotic‑printed kites fluttered overhead, turning the skies into a canvas of national pride.
The city’s celebrations ran in parallel with Ayodhya’s record‑breaking diya‑lighting, drawing headlines from both eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. While Ayodhya celebrated the birthplace of Lord Ram, Lucknow’s “sops” turned into a new badge of military glory.
Local traders reported huge crowds lining up to buy kites that bear images of the Indian Army and Air Force. The kites showcase the bravery of Operation Sindoor, the 2023 mission that struck Pakistani terror hideouts. The banners also feature selfies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the names of heroes like Colonel Sophia and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.
“Patriotic kites let everyone, from kids to grandpas, feel the country’s strength,” said Salman Ansari, a kite maker and shop owner. “It’s a chance to show our confidence under Modi’s leadership.”
Ansari’s family‑run shop produced about 5,000 Operation‑Sindoor themed kites, and the stock is almost gone. “Only a few kites remain,” he added, explaining that demand far outpaces supply.
With sky‑high kites and glowing diyas, this Diwali’s celebration stretched beyond the lights to the shared hope of a stronger, united India.
