Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta jumped into action on Thursday, taking charge as the Minister-in-Charge for the bustling Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency. She kicked off her role with a detailed review of ongoing development projects and stuck-on pending works in the area, aiming to boost progress for locals and traders.
In a lively meeting, Gupta dove deep into key challenges facing the constituency and brainstormed practical fixes. Top on the agenda? Tackling rampant encroachments and the nightmare of traffic congestion across assembly segments like Chandni Chowk, Kashmere Gate, and Sadar Bazaar. These issues have been causing major headaches for residents and shop owners, and Gupta made it clear: sort them out right away.
She didn’t stop there. Gupta pushed officials to create a solid plan for setting up pink urinals—those women-friendly toilets—in the crowded markets of Old Delhi. It’s a smart move to address the serious shortage of such facilities in these vibrant spots.
Joining her were Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal, BJP MLAs, councillors, and top officials from key departments. Everyone chipped in with urgent concerns, from revamping parks and building multi-level car parks to modernizing markets, making better use of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land, fixing roads, cleaning sewers and drains, and repairing or installing streetlights.
Gupta listened closely and ordered quick action on all fronts. She stressed the need for seamless teamwork between the Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police, Delhi Jal Board, and other agencies to handle road management and pipeline excavations more efficiently.
On the stray cattle front, Gupta voiced worries about cows and other animals roaming streets, creating safety risks and worsening traffic jams. She promised a compassionate approach, announcing that the BJP-led Delhi government will roll out 11 cow shelters across the city in stages. These spots will offer proper food, medical care, and safe homes to keep streets clearer while caring for the animals.
Gupta also fast-tracked approvals for projects under the Chief Minister’s Development Fund (CMDF), urging officials to clear pending files and get work done on time. She encouraged MLAs and councillors to submit fresh proposals based on local needs so development can speed up.
Wrapping up, she called for tight coordination among MPs, MLAs, and councillors to deliver real benefits from these initiatives straight to Chandni Chowk residents. With daily updates on the e-file system and a focus on urgency and transparency, Gupta’s push signals big changes ahead for this iconic Delhi hub.
