Creepy flight passenger from NJ groped seatmate, ‘untied her pants’ when she rejected his advances: prosecutors

A 41‑year‑old man from New Jersey, Vernon Baker, was found guilty on Wednesday of abusing sexual contact after a disturbing incident on a flight from Los Angeles to Philadelphia on Oct. 30, 2024. According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Baker repeatedly pushed a female passenger seated next to him, trying to force her to touch his genitals. When she refused, he exposed himself and continued his advances. The woman, effectively “traumatized and shaken,” scrabbled to the rear of the cabin and alerted flight attendants, who reported the assault.

Prosecutors say Baker also “grabbed her breast over her clothing and untied her pants,” a claim that has been upheld in court. He was charged in January 2025 with abusive sexual contact on an aircraft and pleaded guilty. His sentencing is set for March 3, where he could receive up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine. It’s still unclear which airline was involved in this ill‑fated flight.
