India’s three armed forces will come together for the first time since Operation Sindoor for a new drone‑and‑counter‑drone training called Exercise Cold Start. The drill starts tomorrow and will run for four days in Babina and Mhow, two key military bases in central India.
The Integrated Defence Staff is running the exercise, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Anil Chauhan, will inspect the teams in one of the sessions. The goal is to mix air, land and sea capabilities so that all branches can share information and fight together against aerial threats.
During the Operation Sindoor last year, India targeted terrorist bases that had launched attacks from inside Pakistan. In response, the Pakistani military tried to hit civilian and military targets in India. The fight drew heavy use of drones from both sides. Indian drones—both locally built and imported—inflicted serious damage on Pakistani positions, while Pakistan’s attempts to use Turkish and Chinese drones were largely countered by Indian air defenses.
With the lessons learned from Sindoor, Indian forces are tightening their drone‑warfare tactics. By working together on joint exercises like Cold Start, they hope to stay ahead of drones that could be used by hostile states or non‑state actors in future conflicts.
