Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel joined a prayer meeting at Kirti Mandir in Porbandar to mark Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. The event honored Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy in his birthplace.
Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for “Vocal for Local” and “Har Ghar Swadeshi,” Patel rolled out big discounts on Khadi products—the iconic symbol of India’s Swadeshi movement—right from this Gandhi Jayanti.
Patel announced a 30% special market promotion assistance on the production costs of Khadi and Polyvastra items, kicking off October 2, 2025. Shoppers can snag this as a rebate on Khadi buys through December 31. The move aims to ramp up production, sales, and everyday use of homegrown goods, building toward an Atmanirbhar Bharat—a self-reliant and thriving India. It ties right into Modi’s slogan: “Khadi for Nation – Khadi for Fashion.”
This Gandhi Jayanti boost should spike sales of Khadi and Polyvastra across Gujarat. Expect more demand for artisan-made treasures like mats, carpets, silk patola fabrics, woolen sweaters, jerseys, shawls, ready-to-wear Khadi clothes, and handmade crafts from cooperatives and organizations.
The decision comes at a perfect time, giving rural artisans a financial lift as they gear up for Diwali sales of Khadi and village industry products.
To spread the word, the Khadi Board plans exhibition-cum-sale fairs statewide this Gandhi Jayanti season. Check out events in Bharuch from October 5-14, Chikhli from November 5-14, and Vapi from November 16-25.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi on his 156th birth anniversary. He spotlighted Gandhi’s timeless messages of truth, non-violence, and Swadeshi, which fueled India’s freedom struggle.
