NCB Busts Major Charas Smuggling Racket in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag
In a big win for anti-drug efforts, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has smashed a major narcotics smuggling racket in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. They arrested three key players and seized over 10 kg of charas, a popular form of cannabis contraband.
The operation targeted a supplier and two repeat offenders who have tangled with the law before. NCB’s Srinagar team acted fast on solid tips and raided the Bijbehara area on August 19. Their efforts paid off with the recovery of 10.735 kg of charas hidden for smuggling.
The arrested suspects are Firdous from Bijbehara in Anantnag, Jan Mohd Baba from Lal Bazaar in Srinagar, and Mohd Lateef from Srigufwara in Anantnag. Checks on their records show Firdous has faced NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases at Bijbehara Police Station and NCB Jammu. Jan Mohd Baba also has a prior NDPS bust by NCB Jammu. As for Mohd Lateef, he supplied the charas and helped move it across states through shady networks.
This bust highlights the NCB’s growing presence in the region. The Srinagar office, set up as part of the central government’s push, aims to ramp up narcotics control in Jammu and Kashmir. NCB vows to keep cracking down on drug trafficking, safeguard young people from its dangers, and team up better with local agencies.
