Actors in Lifetime movie about mass killer Bryan Kohberger prance in fake blood on social media — infuriating victims’ kin
Some actors from a new Lifetime film about the Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger filmed themselves dancing around in costume and dripping in fake blood, posting the clips on social media. The stunt infuriated the families of those who lost their lives.
The upcoming drama, released under Lifetime’s “Ripped From the Headlines” banner, tells the story of the November 2022 murders of students Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen in Moscow, Idaho.
In the days before the movie’s premiere, several cast members posted videos of themselves prancing in full makeup and bloodied outfits, sparking outrage. Actress Haylie Hansen, who portrays Goncalves, removed one of her own posts after criticism, only for it to be reposted by other TikTok users.
Goncalves’ parents, Steve and Kristi, have publicly denounced both the actors and the production crew, accusing them of profiting from a horrible crime. In a statement to the U.S. Sun they said the film is “a grave disrespect to our daughter and family” and that the decision to make the movie “has happened too soon.”
They also pointed out that the filmmakers never reached out to them during production and criticized Lifetime for prioritizing profit over empathy. “We are hurt, disappointed, and we miss Kaylee and Maddie every day,” the parents added, urging that the movie’s media manager be dismissed.
Kohberger was sentenced in July to four consecutive life terms, with no possibility of parole, and an additional 10‑year sentence for burglary. Some family members had hoped for a death penalty.
Representatives for Hansen, director Steven Adelson, and Lifetime have yet to comment.
The same creative team that produced “The Murdaugh Murders” – a dramatization of the 2021 killings of Maggie Murdaugh and her son Paul – is behind this film, with actor Miles Merry cast as Kohberger. Production is slated to begin soon.
