All India Civil Services Sports meet begins in Patna; over 1,000 take part

Patna, Dec 13 ( LatestNewsX ) — A sizable group of civil‑service athletes has gathered in Patna to kick off the All India Civil Services Sports Championship 2025‑26. The meet, held at the Patliputra Sports Complex, opened on Saturday and will run through to December 15.
A total of 1,084 participants, comprising players and officials, are competing over three days. Among them, 702 are men, 328 women and 54 officials, representing every one of India’s 28 states and nine union territories, including Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The championship features a full slate of track and field events, drawing officers from across the civil‑services to vie at a high standard. The opening day’s morning schedule highlighted fiercely contested 100‑metre and 400‑metre races, with competitors displaying clear determination, discipline and good sportsmanship.
Patliputra’s venue is well‑equipped, boasting a synthetic track, internationally compliant field‑event facilities and modern infrastructure that supports a professional contest environment.
Track and field programmes span sprints and middle‑distance races, high jump, long jump, shot put, discus, javelin, and relays. A special veterans’ bracket for athletes aged 40 to 60 aims to encourage senior officers to join in, fostering interaction between seasoned athletes and the younger generation.
Bihar’s Chief Secretary, Pratyaya Amrit, expressed pride that the state is hosting the championship. He praised the active participation of government officials, noting the challenges they face in balancing work and sport.
“Bihar established its own Sports Department in 2024,” Chief Secretary Amrit said. “Since then, we’ve hosted a number of international events and the government remains committed to promoting athletics and supporting athletes.”
He added that recent years have seen a robust push to enhance sports infrastructure across Bihar, with district‑level academies launching and various schemes designed to spot and nurture emerging talent.
