The Kolkata Police have taken a suspect into custody after a woman reported being molested in a car on November 28, officials said on Sunday. Officers at Pragati Maidan police station apprehended a 24‑year‑old man who was traveling with two other men when the incident occurred; CCTV footage had already identified him. “One person has been arrested on charges of molesting a young woman inside a car. The complaint was lodged against three men. Search is on to catch the other two,” a senior officer from the department added. The arrest followed a grievance filed by a 28‑year‑old married woman from East Kolkata, who claims she was dragged into a vehicle, forced to consume spiked alcohol and then sexually assaulted by a trio of men on the Eastern Metropolitan bypass late that night. She said she was waiting for a rideshare‑app car at a bus stand near Pragati Maidan around 9 p.m., when the vehicle arrived with three occupants, one of whom she knew. As soon as it pulled over, she was shoved into the moving car. She reported being made to drink the drug‑laced alcohol, subjected to verbal and physical abuse, and later abandoned near the Maidan area before the car drove away. She was rescued by witnesses, suffered injuries, and was taken to SSKM Hospital where she is receiving treatment. Police officers from Pragati Maidan subsequently visited the hospital to take her statement, registered the case, and are now pursuing the remaining accused. sch/dpb
