Rohit Sharma’s knock will give him great satisfaction, says Abhishek Nayar

In the second One‑Day International of the India‑Australia series, former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar said Rohit Sharma’s 73‑run innings will leave him proud, even though he missed a century in Adelaide.

Rohit returned to international play in the opener but scored only eight runs in Perth, which drew a lot of criticism from fans and pundits. He silenced his critics in the next match with a solid knock, joined by Shreyas Iyer’s 61, as India posted 264 for 9 in 50 overs. Though India lost the game, Sharma’s innings is a morale boost for the batting lineup.

Australia, featuring Matthew Short’s 74 and Cooper Connolly’s unbeaten 61, chased the target in 46.2 overs, giving them a 2‑0 series advantage in the three‑match set.

“What matters are the hard‑won knocks,” Nayar told JioStar’s “Cricket Live.” “Rohit won’t remember the exact score, but he will feel great because he fought hard for every run. It’s the same feeling a bowler gets when he takes wickets on a flat pitch.” He added that Rohit’s resilience shows the Indian team’s fighting spirit, especially when the batting faced tough conditions.

Parthiv Patel, another former India player, looked ahead to the final game. “Kuldeep Yadav will be in the XI for the last ODI,” he said. “We need a solid balance, and Kuldeep can deliver the kills the middle overs where we’ve struggled. If the top order falters, that’s part of the game—we shouldn’t add more hitters, just play the best combination.” He also joked that the coaching staff might coach Captain Shubman Gill on turning the toss into an advantage, noting how swings have helped Australia so far.

Despite Australia sealing the series 2‑0, India showed resilience and played well, especially given the limited preparation time. The series remains a high‑profile clash for top cricketing nations, keeping fans and analysts watching closely.
