The two‑day Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) kicked off Thursday in Kherva, Mehsana, drawing leaders and business owners from all over the state. The event, part of Gujarat’s annual push to boost trade and investment, highlighted the state’s strengths and new growth opportunities.
On the opening day, Johannes Zutt, the World Bank’s Vice President for South Asia, met one‑on‑one with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Zutt explained how the World Bank wants to link Gujarat’s vibrant traders and entrepreneurs to global supply chains. He praised the state’s business savvy and urged the government to continue developing markets that can compete worldwide.
The World Bank also showcased a new “Carbon Credit‑linked Finance Product,” a tool that could open fresh sustainable‑financing channels for regional projects. Patel welcomed the idea and said it fits well with Gujarat’s push for greener growth.
At the conference, the World Bank’s exhibition booth highlighted best practices from other states and countries where the bank has helped finance agriculture projects. Patel asked that these successes be shared with Gujarat to help the state’s farmers and food businesses.
Discussions also turned to emerging sectors like EdTech. Both sides agreed that the World Bank could help Gujarat foster digital learning innovations that reach more students and workers across the state.
Senior officials from the state government—including Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary MK Das, and others—attended the meeting, underscoring the high level of coordination between the World Bank and Gujarat’s administration.
The VGRC continues to be a key platform where international partners and local leaders shape the next wave of Gujarat’s economic future.
