Nick Reiner was diagnosed with schizophrenia, new meds made him ‘out of his head’ before parent’s murders: sources
Nick Reiner, who had been living with schizophrenia, was on a new psychiatric regimen in the weeks leading up to the tragic killings of his father, legendary filmmaker Rob Reiner, and mother, Michele. At 32, the middle child had been under professional care, but around a month before the murders, doctors altered his medication, and “out of his head” behavior seemed to flare up, reports to TMZ said.
The change in his prescription reportedly made him “erratic and dangerous,” a statement from insiders. While the medical team aimed to fine‑tune his treatment, the adjustment apparently backfired, especially when combined with his ongoing substance use, causing a further spike in volatility.
Within three to four weeks before Rob and Michele were found fatally stabbed in their Brentwood home, Nick’s medication was switched, and the resulting instability was deemed a key factor in the events that unfolded. The newly prescribed drug appeared to push him beyond control, making the situation “out of his head” according to sources.
He had been staying at a high‑end Los Angeles facility that specializes in mental health and addiction, known for its clientele of affluent patients and a hefty monthly fee of $70,000, according to the outlet.
